Drakensberg Mountain Range

The Drakensberg mountain range stretches the entire length of KwaZulu-Natal’s western boundary. Hundreds of kilometers of unspoiled escarpment await the visitor who seeks to get away from it all.

Drakensberg Mountain Activities include:

Walks - From leisurely strolls to 3- to 5-day hikes for the enthusiast. Sleep over in caves where the Bushmen lived hundreds of years ago.

Rides - Pony trekking is popular from a number of venues, both in the Drakensberg mountains proper as well as in the Little 'Berg.

Hot Air Ballooning (when available) - For the not so energetic. Drift along the foothills of the mountains and drink in our incredible scenery - an amazing opportunity for game and bird enthusiasts.

Rock Art - The San (Bushman) people inhabited nearly all of South Africa for thousands of years with the Drakensberg being one of their last refuges. They left an amazing legacy of rock art and engravings

Flyfishing - The sparkling ‘Berg streams are a paradise for both the serious fisherman as well as the beginner. Wild Rainbow and Brown trout are in season from September through to April, and there are many lakes, which are open all year round.
